TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho Softball team moved into first place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference race for a brief period of time on Friday as Salt Lake split with Southern Nevada. But after beating Snow 9-8 in game one, the Golden Eagles fell 4-2 in game two, dropping back into second place by a half game.
Still, it took late-game heroics to capture game one. Tied heading into the bottom of the seventh with one out,
Brytni Gurney singled.
Savannah Kirkpatrick then reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs,
Marissa Johnson laced a double to the right-center gap to score Kirkpatrick and give the Golden Eagles the win.
Snow out-hit CSI 15-8 but the Golden Eagles capatalized on five Snow errors and three walks.
CSI didn't have the same magic in game two.
The Golden Eagles trailed 3-0 heading into the sixth inning. But a Gurney 2-run home run pulled CSI within one. Snow added an insurance run in the top of the seventh but wouldn't need it as CSI ended the game with a strikeout with runners and first and second and two outs.
CSI hosts Snow Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. Between games, there will be a ceremony to honor the sophomore class.
