TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho Softball team found itself down 9-0 in game two Saturday after losing game one 5-4 in a doubleheader with Snow College. But instead of giving up, the Golden Eagles battled back to take the 15-13 win on a walk-off home run by
Markii Ashton.
Trailing 9-0, CSI slowly climbed back into the game, scoring four runs in the third, three runs in the fifth and two runs in the fifth. Snow countered with a solo home run in the sixth before the Golden Eagles jumped back ahead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
But CSI would watch that lead disappear as the Badgers scored three runs in the top of the 7th on two doubles and two singles.
With two quick outs to open the bottom of the seventh,
Carley White singled to left field. She advance on a passed ball before
Shea Ibrahim walked.
Kayla Carter scored White on a single to left field. Carter and Ibrahim advanced on a passed ball before Ashton hit a home run over the left centerfield wall to give the Eagles the win.
Ibrahim ended the game with two homes runs, taking her season total to 22. White finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI and
Abby Toller was 2-for 3.
Game one had a much different feel. Snow College took the 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a rbi hit by BritLee Anderson. But Anderson's number had been entered into the lineup incorrectly and she was called for the third out. The umpires ruled the run counted. Later it was determined the run should not have counted but the call could not be reversed.
The Golden Eagles tied up the game in the bottom of the first. Snow rallied, scoring two runs in the third and two in the fourth. Heading into the bottom of the fifth, CSI trailed 5-1. But a 3-run home run by
Brytni Gurney pulled the Golden Eagles within one run. CSI had runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't bring across the tying run, falling by one run to the Badgers.
With the split, CSI falls 1 1/2 games behind Salt Lake who swept Southern Nevada Saturday.
The Golden Eagles travel to Henderson Friday and Saturday to play Southern Nevada and finish up the regular season at Salt Lake.Â
