#3 CSI Softball posts dominating performances in Rangely

RANGELY, Colo. - It's a toss up whether the pitching performances by Kami Merrill and Kelsey Christensen or the hitting performances by the Golden Eagle lineup were more impressive Friday and Saturday in CSI's 21-0, 10-0, 12-0, and 11-1 wins over Colorado Northwestern CC.
Merrill came one hit away from a perfect game in the opener, giving up no walks and one hit along with seven strikeouts. Not to be outdone, Christensen followed in game two with a two-hit shutout with one walk and nine strikeouts.
The two were just as dominant Saturday. Merrill again gave up just two hits to go with two walks and no runs. Christensen gave up the Eagles first run of the weekend but it was unearned. She finished the game with two walks and five strikeouts along with giving up just three hits.
Merrill and Christensen didn't need a lot of run support. But they got it. CSI hitters combined for 49 hits in the four games, led by first baseman Kayla Carter. The sophomore led the team in hitting .615 on the weekend with three singles, two doubles, one triple, two home runs and 12 RBI. Shea Ibrahim hit three home runs to take her season total to 20 and give her back the lead in the country for most home runs.
As a team, the Golden Eagles hit .430 at the plate with eight home runs and 51 RBI.
CSI improves to 37-10 overall and 23.4 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Golden Eagles host Snow Friday and Saturday for their last regular season homestand. Saturday the sophomores will be recognized.
