SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The College of Southern Idaho women's basketball team is guaranteed at least a tie for second place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference race and with that the two seed in the Region 18 Tournament by beating Salt Lake CC 78-75 Thursday on the Bruins home court.
On the same night that CSI won, Snow lost to North Idaho 67-66 on a last second shot by the Cardinals.
The Golden Eagles face Salt Lake earlier in the season, losing by 39 points and 26 points. This time, CSI was able to stay within 10 the entire game and swapping leads 19 times before taking a 76-75 lead on a
Denajha Kie jumper with 23 seconds to play.
Salt Lake had a chance to go ahead with six seconds on the clock by
Elisabet Lopez Sagrera secured the rebound and hit both of her free throws with three seconds to play for the final tally.
Sagrera finished the game with 21 points, 12 rebounds and two assists. MaKenzie VanSickle added 16 points, four assists and three rebounds. Three other players scored in double figures including
Samantha Lubcke (13), Kie (13) and
Holly Blades (13). Lubcke added five assists and eight rebounds.
CSI travels to Snow Saturday for its final game of the regular season.
