Alex Maia will be a part of the inaugural College of Southern Idaho Men's and Women's Soccer Teams as the goalkeeper coach. Maia brings a wealth of experience from his career as a professional soccer player between 1992 and 2000. He played on six professional clubs in both northern and northeast of Brazil. He won eight titles, including seven state championships and one regional title. In total, he competed in 10 first-division state championships, five national first-division Brazil Cups, two first-division Northern Cups and one international Conmebol Cup in the South American continent.
His greatest achievement was winning the title of the Northern Cup in 1997. His team won 2-1 against Clube do Remo from Para state, playing inside Mangueirao Stadium at the opponent's home with more than 50,000 Remo supporters.
In 2000, Maia stopped playing professional soccer to dedicate his time to earning his master's and doctoral degree. In 2006, he started his career as a professor, but in 2010 he returned to play again and eventually became the goalkeeper coach of Associacao Cultural Esporte Clube Baraunas from Mossoro City, Rio Grande do Norte.
Currently, he is pursuing a sabbatical through the University of Idaho. In Brazil, he is a professor and researcher at Sao Paulo State University and still competes in Master Championships and is also a goalkeeper coach in Japanese-Brazilian Association of Jaboticabal.
