Cortney Clark begins her eighth season as the CSI assistant softball coach.
Clark, who played softball at the University of Arizona under USA Olympic coach Mike Candrea, joined the Eagles in the fall of 2011.
"We are very lucky to have Cortney on our coaching staff," said CSI head coach Nick Baumert. "She has played at a very high level and been a part of a couple great programs."
Clark played at Arizona for two years, helping the Wildcats to two Pac 10 Championships and a NCAA Women's College World Series appearance in 2005. She transferred to BYU to complete her education and played a key role in leading the Cougars to a Mountain West Conference Championship in 2007. That year, she was named BYU's MVP for softball and won the leadership award.
She graduated from BYU with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and fitness and wellness management.
Prior to college, Clark was two-time 3A Regional Player of the Year and Arizona Small Schools Player of the Year. She also was a two-time Arizona softball all-state selection. She played for USA Athletes International in 2006, where she competed in Prague, Czech Republic. In 2007, she competed in the Canada Cup for the USA Wilson Team Select. They played Team USA, Japan, Canada and others.
After her playing days, Clark helped coach at Show Low High School as well as worked with a summer travel team.
"Her experience catching at the Division I level is invaluable," Baumert said. "She comes from a great softball family and understands what it takes to play at a high level."
Clark's sister Chelsea Nix played at CSI in 2009 and 2010. Clark is one of five daughters and all five played collegiate softball. Clark's dad Carl Nix is the head coach at Show Low high School and also coaches summer travel ball.
Clark is married to Heath. They have two daughters - Addisyn and Aspyn.
