OXFORD, Ala. - The College of Southern Idaho battled with top-seeded McLennan and Walters State Wednesday but just came up short, falling to McLennan 7-3 and Walters State 4-2.
The Golden Eagles scored first against McLennan but went flat in the middle innings and couldn't keep a seventh-inning rally going to comeback.
Markessa Jensen was 1-3, with a home run and two RBI.
Tasha Hokanson and
Taya Manzanares were each 2-for-3,
Haylee Farnsworth was 1-for-1 and
Courtney Christiansen had a double.
Abby Hayes pitched 2.1 innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits and
Eva Stoddard went 3.2 innings, giving up three runs on four hits.
In game two, CSI once again rallied in the seventh and pulled within two with two on but couldn't plate them.
Brylee Bigelow was 1-for-2, Farnsworth,
Kenzee Hale and
Abbie Banning were each 1-for-3. Hayes earned the loss, going 5.2 innings, giving up three earned runs.
CSI ends its season with its third straight NJCCA National Tournament appearance and a 47-16 overall record. The Golden Eagles finished tied for ninth in the nation. Salt Lake CC also represented Region 18 at the tournament, tying for 13th.
