TWIN FALLS, Idaho – The College of Southern Idaho (CSI) announced today that current CSI Assistant Athletic Director Daequon "DQ" Montreal has been selected as the college's next Athletic Director. Montreal will officially begin his new role on July 1, upon the retirement of long-time CSI Athletic Director Joel Bate.
"As someone who had the opportunity to be a first-generation student-athlete and obtain a degree from CSI, it is an honor and blessing to be chosen to lead such a historic athletic program like the College of Southern Idaho," said Montreal following the announcement.
College of Southern Idaho President Dean Fisher noted that Montreal was selected following a thorough search process. "We conducted a national search and DQ rose to the top among a crop of solid candidates," said Fisher. "During his time here as Assistant Athletic Director, DQ has shown that he is ready to assume this role and to continue the storied tradition of CSI Athletics."
Montreal has a long history with the college. He was a standout basketball student-athlete at CSI from 2007-2009, before transferring to Boise State University where he competed for the Broncos from 2009-2011. Montreal then played professional basketball for the Dandenong Rangers in the Australian Basketball League from 2011-2016, before returning to Twin Falls. In 2022, Montreal returned to CSI when he was hired as the Assistant Athletic Director.
Montreal expressed excitement about his role in the next chapter of CSI athletics. "To continue the longstanding success of our athletic programs, I intend to work closely with the institution to ensure that we have the resources to empower our student-athletes to thrive academically and athletically. I will continue to foster strong partnerships with our community and acknowledge the incredible support they offer us."
Montreal's wife, Jamie, is a nursing instructor in the CSI nursing program and she was also a CSI basketball student-athlete. They live in Twin Falls with their two children.
