Golden Eagles season ends in second-round loss to Gulf Coast

CASPER, Wyo. - The 12th-seeded CSI Women's Basketball Team clawed back to within four points with a minute to go but couldn't complete the comeback, falling to fifth-seeded Gulf Coast State 65-55 Thursday at the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball National Championships.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a three-point lead three minutes into the game but that would be their only lead as Gulf Coast went on a run and finished the first quarter up 16-10.
CSI lost the battle of the boards, which gave Gulf Coast 15 second-chance points and CSI only four. The Golden Eagles were out-rebounded 43-27 for the game.
Kaylee Headrick played tough all game, leading CSI with 17 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. The only other Golden Eagle in double figures was Jamisyn Heaton with 14 points. She added eight rebounds and a team-high four assists.
Freshman Mikeili Ika finished with seven points, two steals and one assist. Off the bench, Mariah Mons had six points and two rebounds.
CSI ends its season in a tie for ninth at the national tournament and a 28-6 final record.
