HENDERSON, Nev. - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball Team fought through the loser-out game to beat USU Eastern 8-7 Thursday before falling to Salt Lake CC 6-1 in the nightcap, ending the Golden Eagles season.
In game one, the Golden Eagles took a 7-1 lead into the ninth inning before USUE scored six in the ninth to send the game into extra innings.Â
With one out,
Nate Rose took first on a hit by pitch and
Eliot Jones walked. After a pitching change,
Brody Duvall knocked a single down the left field line to score Rose and give CSI the walk-off win.
Jones was 3-for-4 with two walks in the game. Duvall and Shafer were each 2-for-5.
Junior Garcia had a two-RBIÂ double and
Colby Carter finished with a double.Â
Dax Newman earned the win, pitching the final inning and giving up no runs on one hit with one strikeout.
Candon Dahle earned the no decision, starting and going 6.2 innings and giving up no runs on four hits with six strikeouts.
That win sent CSI into a must win game against Salt Lake to stay alive in the tournament and earn a spot in the championship game.
The Golden Eagles led 1-0 through three innings but the Bruins scored six runs in the fourth and that would be the final tally as CSI couldn't get its bats going.
Rose and Garcia were the only two players two register two hits. Garcia was 2-for-4 and Rose was 2-for-3 with a double.
Jace Leatham finished the game 1-for-1.
Ashton Johnson took the loss on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
Jordan Rowley pitched 2.2 innings in the game, giving up no runs on not hits with six strikeouts.
CSI finishes the season 32-19 overall.
