TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The 23rd-ranked College of Southern Idaho Men's Basketball Team knocked off #1 Salt Lake CC 74-70 Wednesday in front of a sold-out crowd.
The Golden Eagles, who led for almost 33 minutes of the game, clinged to a 72-70 lead with 16 seconds to go in the game.
Salt Lake had the ball with a chance to tie or win but a turnover by Jordan Brinson and a steal by
Taelon Martin led to a dunk by
Madit Lueeth at the buzzer and the win for CSI on sophomore night.
Two big keys to the game for the Golden Eagles were free throw shooting and rebounding. CSI shot 75 percent from the line on 21-of-28, while Salt Lake managed just 52 percent on 13-of-25. The Golden Eagles out-rebounded the Bruins 49-40 as well.
Marcellious Lockett led CSI with 16 points, three rebounds and two steals.
Daylen Williams finished with eight points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shot.
The other two Golden Eagles in double-digit scoring were Taelong Martin with 15 points and
Robert Whaley with 11. Martin also had nine rebounds, three assists and three steals and Whaley had eight rebounds and two assists.Â
Joel Armotrading and
Madit Lueeth gave CSI some big minutes. Armotrading posted two points, four rebounds, one assist and two blocked shots in 14 minutes and Lueeth had six points, one assist and two blocked shots in 17 minutes.
CSI, now 22-6 overall and 11-6 in conference play, travels to Southern Nevada Saturday for its final regular season conference game. The Region 18 Tournament begins next Thursday in Salt Lake.
