TWIN FALLS, Idaho - College of Southern Idaho's
Deng Dut drove the lane with two seconds to play, scoring to give the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game and the 68-67 win over Northeastern Junior College Saturday in the Wright Physical Therapy/Hilex Poly Invitational.
CSI trailed by as much as 13 points and struggled to find any offense in the first half, shooting just 13 percent from the field.Â
But the Golden Eagles gradually climbed back into the game and gave themselves a chance for the win late. With 12 seconds left in the game, Dut found
Sebastian Reynoso-Jimenez inside for a layup and one. He knocked down the free throw to pull CSI within one at 67-66. CSI fouled Cyler Kane-Johnson with 11 seconds on the clock. He missed his free throw and
Maurice Barnett pulled down the rebound to set up Dut's winning layup.
Dut finished the game with 27 points, seven assists and six rebounds. He played all 40 minutes for the Golden Eagles.
Stevie Smith added 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while
Tsotne Tsartsidze had nine points and eight rebounds. Barnett finished the game with seven points and five rebounds for CSI.
The win takes the 12th-ranked Golden Eagles to 2-0 on the season. CSI travels to Western Nebraska Thursday and Eastern Wyoming Saturday.
In the earlier game USU Eastern beat Community Christian College 119-63.Â
