DOTHAN, Ala. - The 19th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Softball Team jumped out to a 10-2 run rule over Calhoun before falling to Central Alabama 8-3 and Gulf Coast 6-2 in the Chipola College Tournament, featuring 26 teams.
The Golden Eagles had no shortage of hits in the first game and
Kenzie Waters kept Calhoun off balance all game in the circle.
Nikki Zielinski went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Kalena Shepherd finished with a home run and 3 RBI, while
Kylie Baumert was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Maya Williams and
Mya Washington each went 2-for-4. Waters earned the win, pitching six innings and giving up two earned runs with four strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles bats went cold in the final two games of the day.
Miranda Page and Zielinski were the only players with more than one hit. Each went 2-for-4. Baumert, Shepherd,
Emma Wilson and
Kaylee Lamont each added one hit. Jensen earned the loss, going 4.1 innings and giving up six earned runs on five walks and three strikeouts.
The third game was very similar with Page and Zielinski each posting two hits and Baumert,
Payton Hammond and
Siera Horton adding one apiece. Hammond earned the loss, going 5.1 innings and giving up three earned run on six hits with two strikeouts.
CSI, 5-4 overall, takes on #2 Florida Southwestern and #6 Central Florida Saturday.
