HENDERSON, Nev. - The College of Southern Idaho Softball Team used the long ball and lots of basehits to power past Eastern Arizona 10-8, #9 Arizona Western 17-5 and Central Arizona 14-8.
On the day, the Golden Eagles pounded out 47 hits, 41 runs, eight doubles and five home runs, three of those grand slams.
In game one, CSI led 10-6 going into the bottom of the seventh but Eastern battled back, scoring two run with not outs and putting runners on second and third,
Siera Horton entered the game to shut them down. She got a double play and ground out to give CSI the win.
Payton Hammond earned the win in the circle. At the plate,
Maya Williams went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, double and five RBI.
Kalena Shepherd was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Emma wilson was 1-for-3 with a double and RBI and
Carley Croshaw was 1-for-3 with a double.
The Golden Eagles kept the momentum going in game two against Arizona Western.
Mailee Jensen earned the win, going four innings and giving up four earned runs with five strikeouts. Horton again earned the save, giving up no runs in three innings of work.
Mya Washington had a big game at the plate, going 5-for-5 with a home run, double and 5 RBI. Shepherd was 2-for-3 with four RBI, Croshaw finished 1-for-4 with a grand slam and
Kylie Baumert was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases.
In game three CSI put together its best hitting, defensive and pitching performances of the day.
After falling behind 6-3 in the top of the second inning, Jensen came in to shut the door. The sophomore pitched six innings and gave up one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts. Croshaw was 3-for-4 with a grand slam, home run and six RBI. Baumert was 4-for-5 with two RBI, Zielinski was 3-for-5 with two RBI,
Miranda Page was 3-for-5 and Hammond was 2-for-4.
The Golden Eagles, 3-0 overall, play NJCAA Division II #3 Phoenix College at 10:30 a.m. PST and 16th-ranked Yavapai at 1 pm. PST Saturday.
