GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The 18th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Baseball team battled to the end, falling just short to #1 Walters State 12-10 Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA World Series.
The Golden Eagles are one of four teams left at the national tournament and can still come back around and play for the national title. CSI takes on San Jacinto Thursday at 3 p.m. The winner will face the loser of the semifinal game between Walters State and Chipola to get into the championship game.
It looked like it would be all Walters State early on Wednesday as it jumped out to a 6-0 lead. But the Golden Eagles battled back in the second inning with an RBI single by
Brett Resch and then a grand slam by
Travis Bohall to pull within 6-5.
CSI took its first lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Shawn Grandmont led off with a single.
Nick Dolce walked. Both advanced on a wild pitch before Resch hit a 2-RBI double. Bohall later singled to score Resch and make it 10-8 Golden Eagles.
That would be all CSI would score. Walters State scored four in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin. The Golden Eagles had two on in the top of the ninth via walks but couldn't bring them around.
Bohall finished the game 3-for-5 with 5 RBI, while Resch was 2-5 with 2 RBI.
