GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball team scored four runs in the sixth inning to get on the board and cruised to a 5-2 win over Temple College Saturday in the opening round of the NJCAA World Series.
Both teams fought to a 0-0 tie through five innings. But the Golden Eagles finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth.
Colin Gordon led off the inning with a double.
Hayden Leatham followed with a hit by pitch.
Nolan Walker came through next with the 3-RBI home run over the right-center fence.
Shawn Grandmont added a solo shot to the same spot in the very next at bat.
Temple pulled to within 4-2 in the eighth on two unearned runs before CSI added an insurance run in the bottom half of the eighth.
Walker finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, while Grandmont was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Dylan Steen had a solid performance on the mound, going 7.2 innings and giving up no earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.
Brandon Soucy came in for the save. The sophomore went 1.1 innings, giving up no runs on no hits with three strikeouts.
CSI will take on Iowa Western Monday at 7:30 p.m. Iowa Western defeated Chattahoochee Valley 7-6.
