TWIN FALLS, Idaho - No MVPs were named at the District Playoff this weekend but if there would have been,
Travis Bohall would be right at the top. The sophomore center fielder crushed a home run to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth and give the College of Southern Idaho Baseball team a chance to win the championship game and advance to the NJCAA World Series. Then with two outs and runners on first and second, Bohall laced a single to right center to lead the Golden Eagles past Arizona Western 4-3 and secure their berth in the World Series.
Bohall's bat had been quiet all game. He entered his last two at bats 0-for-4 on the day. But when it counted, he came up big. The Golden Eagles would have ended in the ninth but
Ryke Erickson was picked off first one pitch before Bohall sent the long ball over the fence.
In the 11th,
Shawn Grandmont led off the inning with a walk.
Ryan Nolan followed with a pinch hit bunt single. After a controversial play ended with Arizona Western's coach being tossed, CSI struck out twice to set up the Bohall walk off and the win.
Earlier in the game Grandmont hit a two-run home run to give CSI it's first lead in the bottom of the fourth at 2-1. Arizona Western scored two runs in the top of the 8th to regain the lead. That would be it for the Matadors as Soucy pitched brilliant in relief.
Soucy went 3.2 innings, giving up no runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
Jaden Jensen came in with two outs in the top of the 11th to record the final out and earn the win.
The Golden Eagles will open the World Series in Grand Junction, Colo. May 26th against Temple College.
CSI, now 50-10 overall, did not lose a game at home this season.
