TWIN FALLS, Idaho - College of Southern Idaho freshman
Kamryn Grover was given the ball in the circle with CSI Softball leading 5-4 in the top of the fifth inning. She came up big, giving up no runs on no hits with three strikeouts. None bigger than the final out of the game to give the Golden Eagles the 6-4 win over Salt Lake CC to win the Region 18 Tournament and advance to the NJCAA National Tournament.
The Golden Eagles trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning but scored three runs to take the lead it never relinquished.
Siearrah Anderson led off the inning with a walk. She advanced on a ground out before
Hailey Hicks hit a RBI single.
Nicole Renner then crushed a double to center field.
Melanie Groenewegen walked to the load the bases before
Anjalee Batchelor hit a two RBI single to give the Golden Eagles the lead.
It was the second straight day Batchelor was clutch. The freshman had the game-winning hit the day before in the bottom of the 10th inning. For her play Batchelor took home tournament MVP honors.
Batchelor finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and
Hailey Hicks was 1-for-2 with two walks and one RBI.
Stefani Zimmerman earned the win in the circle, going four innings and giving up three earned runs on five hits. Grover earned the save.
Other CSI players named to the all-tournament team included Zimmerman, Groenewegen,
Tristin Evans and Hicks.
The Golden Eagles, 48-10 overall, will open play at the NJCAA National Tournament next Wednesday in St. George, Utah.
