TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho Softball team beat Salt Lake CC 6-4 and 6-5 Thursday in a Scenic West Athletic Conference matchup between two top 10 nationally ranked teams.
The Golden Eagles held a 6-1 lead in game one heading into the top of the 7th but watched it close to 6-4 quickly. With runners on first and second and two outs,
Hadlie Henderson entered the game. She loaded the bases with a walk and then got Summer Stensgard to strikeout to preserve the win.
Hailey Hicks and
Melanie Groenewegen each finished the game 2-for-3. Groenewegen had two doubles and two RBI.
Tristin Evans was 1-3 with a home run.
Stefani Zimmerman earned the win in the circle, going 6.2 innings and giving up four earned runs on nine hits. Henderson got the save.
CSI trailed 3-0 in game two headed into the bottom of the fifth. A two-run home run by
Siearrah Anderson pulled the Golden Eagles within one run. CSI added three runs in the sixth to take the 5-3 lead heading into the seventh.
Henderson gave up back to back home runs with two outs before Zimmerman came in to return the favor that Henderson helped her with in game one. She gave up a single and then got the final ground out to send the game to the bottom of the seventh where CSI scored on a throwing error to win the game.
Evans and Anderson each finished 2-for-3.
Zimmerman got her second win of the day.
The Golden Eagles host Salt Lake again Friday at noon and 2 p.m.
