ST. GEORGE, Utah - The College of Southern Idaho Softball team came up just short Friday, losing to second-ranked Salt Lake CC 5-4 in extra innings and 9-7 in game two.
The Golden Eagles trailed most of game one after squandering a couple opportunities to score early. Trailing 4-1 going into the top of the 7th,
Hannah Peterson reached first on a one-out error. Hicks plated Peterson with a single before
Nicole Renner knocked a home run to tie the game.
CSI held Salt Lake in the bottom half but couldn't capitalize in the eighth and gave up the winning run in the bottom half.
Renner finished the game 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Melanie Groenewegen was 3-for-4.
Kamryn Grover threw well for CSI, getting the no-decision after pitching 5.1 innings and giving up just two earned runs with four strikeouts.
In game two, Salt Lake took advantage of some Golden Eagle errors despite another great performance at the plate by Renner. The sophomore finished the game 2-for-2 with two home runs and 5 RBI.
Stefani Zimmerman earned the loss in the circle, giving up five earned runs of Salt Lake's nine.
Hannah Peterson was 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI.
CSI, now 10-6 overall and 0-2 in league play, takes on Salt Lake for the final two games of the series Saturday.
