YUMA, Ariz. - The College of Southern Idaho struggled at the plate early, losing to Pima College 11-1 before getting hot and run-ruling Arizona Western 22-0.
The Golden Eagles are now 5-2 overall, both losses to Pima.
CSI's
Melanie Groenewegen was the only hitter to have much success in the opener. The sophomore went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Zimmerman posted the loss but pitched solid early, going five innings and giving up just two earned runs and five strikeouts. But Pima took advantage of a couple Eagle errors and then started hitting to pull away.
Against Arizona Western, whom CSI beat in extra innings last week, the Golden Eagles finished with 21 hits.
Siearrah Anderson hit a grand slam, while Zimmerman went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and four RBI. Other CSI players with a multi-hit game included
Hailey Hicks (2-for-3),
Nicole Renner (3-for-4), Groenwegen (2-3),
Anjalee Batchelor (4-5) and
Tristin Evans (2-5)
The biggest performance for CSI was in the circle.
Kamryn Grover threw a no hitter with four strikeouts to lead the Eagles.
CSI plays three games Friday.
