TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho rallied behind its pitching to take the first game against Salt Lake Friday 3-2 and then fell to the Bruins 6-2 in the second game.
Colton Westfall pitched a gem in game one, giving up six hits and one earned run with eight strikeouts in his 5.2 innings of work. He would finish with a no decision as CSI trailed 2-1 when he exited the game. Rosas, who earned the win, pitched 1.1 innings, giving up no hits, no runs with two strikeouts.
At the plate, CSI finished with just three hits but it didn't matter.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth,
Daniel Nist led off the inning with a walk.
Trevor Lippard reached on a sac bunt error that moved Nist to third and Lippard to second. The Golden Eagles tied it up when Salt Lake's catcher threw the ball away trying to pick off Nist. One hitter later
Cody Barkdull singled to center field to score Lippard and give CSI the lead for good.
The Golden Eagles and Bruins each tallied five hits in game two but Salt Lake took advantage of its base runners to score more runs.
Jordan Freese finished the game 1-for-4 with a home run and one RBI.
Brett Resch was the only Golden Eagle with more than one hit. He went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Jordan Ragan posted the loss, going 5.1 innings and giving up four hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts.
CSI, now 15-19 overall and 8-12 in SWAC play, has a bye next week before hosting Colorado NW two weeks from now.
