CSI Baseball looks sharp in two-game sweep over CNCC

TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball team beat Colorado Northwestern 3-1 and 6-2 Friday behind dominating pitching performances on the mound.
In game one, Ryan Beard gave up just one unearned run in the first inning and shut the Spartans down the rest of the way. In seven innings, he gave up just four hits with five strikeouts.
CSI countered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and that would be all it needed to take the first game. Travis Bohall led off the game with a walk, followed by a Colin Gordon sacrifice bunt. Shawn Grandmont drove in the first run of the game with a double before Blake Sanchez singled. Jordan Freese hit into a fielder's choice out at second. With Grandmont at third, CNCC's third baseman committed an error on a throw to first off a Brett Resch ground ball, scoring Grandmont to take the 2-1 lead CSI never relinquished.
The Eagles added one more in the fourth.
Alex Perron and Cody Barkdull led the way in game two on the mound. Perron earned the win, going 5.2 innings and giving up just four hits and two runs with eight strikeouts. Barkdull came in to get the save, throwing 3.1 innings and giving up no runs on no hits with four strikeouts. Blake Sanchez added a two-rbi double.
Grandmont finished the game 1-3 with a double, rbi and two runs scored.
CSI, now 17-19 overall and 10-12 in conference play, hosts CNCC at noon Saturday in another doubleheader.
