LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball team lost a couple close ones 3-1 and 8-7 to Scottsdale to open the season but the Golden Eagles were in both games after not having played on grass since last fall.
CSI's pitchers only gave up six hits.
Alec West-Guillen had a solid performance in his first start of the season, going four innings and giving up just one run on two hits with five strikeouts.
At the plate,
Travis Bohall went 1-for-2 with an rbi.
Shawn Grandmont was 1-for-1 with a triple.
The Golden Eagles out-hit Scottsdale 10-6 in game two but just didn't get the runs when they needed them. With the score tied at 7 going into the 7th, CSI led off the inning with a single by
Justin Mannens. After two flyouts to right field,
Jordan Freese kept the inning alive with a single that moved Mannens to third. But a third flyout to right ended the scoring threat.
Scottsdale captalized.
Mason Foltz got two quick outs on the mound for CSI. But an error that put the winning run on first proved deadly as Grossman hit a double up the middle for the walk-off win for the Artichokes.
Justin Mannens finished 3-for-3 with one RBI for the Eagles.
Brett Resch was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
CSI led Scottsdale 6-5 through five innings in the second game of a doubleheader when darkness forced the game into suspension. The game will be completed on tomorrow.
