HUTCHINSON, Kansas - The College of Southern Idaho Volleyball team will play for an unprecedented 12th National Championship Saturday after beating Tyler JC 21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 15-9 Friday in the semifinals at the NJCAA
National Tournament.
The Golden Eagles jumped on the back of freshman outside hitter
Airi Miyabi and outlasted a scrappy Tyler squad. Miyabi finished the match with 23 kills and 25 digs, posting just four hitting errors in the match. Sophomore outside hitter Jojo Kruize added 12 kills and 12 digs.
CSI's middle blockers kept Tyler off balance, combining for 17 kills and 10 blocks, while setter
Morgan Weatherwax posted 50 asssits and 11 digs. Playing libero for just third match all season,
Sacha Legros finished the match with four aces and 17 digs.
The last time the Golden Eagles won the national championship was 2015. Just two years later, CSI hopes to put the "12th on the shelf." CSI will play Miami-Dade at 5:30 p.m. MST in the championship. The Sharks beat New Mexico Military Institute in four sets.
