SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The usually potent Golden Eagle offense was stymied Saturday as 15th-ranked CSI men fell to 21st-ranked Salt Lake 96-80 in their first conference matchup of the season.
CSI shot just 36 percent from the field and 58 percent from the free-throw line. And while the Golden Eagles committed just nine turnovers to 21 for Salt Lake, CSI was out-rebounded 57-40.
The Golden Eagles trailed early 33-13 but climbed all the way back into the game, cutting it to five points before a final spurt gave Salt lake the 10-point halftime lead.
That was all Salt Lake would need as it withstood a mini run by the Golden Eagles and pulled away late.
Danya Kingsby led CSI with 15 points and six rebounds.
Charles Jones Jr. added 14 points and six rebounds.
The Golden Eagles, now 15-3 overall and 2-2 in SWAC play, travel to Snow Thursday and Colorado Northwestern Saturday.
