SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The 10th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Softball team beat Snow 1-0 in an elminiation game Friday morning but couldn't complete the comeback, falling to 5th-ranked Salt Lake 3-1 in the Region 18 Championship.
The Golden Eagles gutted out the victory against Snow behind a dominant performance in the circle from
Kelsey Christensen. The sophomore gave up just four hits in the shutout. And while CSI managed just two more hits than Snow, the Golden Eagles were able to push a run across to get the win.
Scoreless through five innings,
Cassidy Basinger took first on a hit by pitch in the bottom of the sixth.
Jaici Bishop singled and
Erin Emanuel sacrified them over. CSI scored on suicide squeeze sacrifice bunt by
Taylor Tahbo that Snow couldn't handle to take th 1-0 lead and eventual win.
The championship game became a pitcher's duel early. Salt Lake pushed across a run in the second inning on two hits. But then neither team could plate a run into the sixth.
The Bruins scored two in the sixth to lead 3-0, giving CSI just one inning to rally.
The Golden Eagles showed signs of life when Emanuel hit a one-out home run to pull within 3-1. But that would be all they would get.
CSI ends its season with a 42-19 overall record and a 30-10 conference record.
