TWIN FALLS - The Golden Eagle baseball team put six runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning to take the 6-4 win over Western Nevada in the doubleheader opener Saturday. CSI fell in game two 10-2.
After holding Western Nevada scoreless to start game one, CSI rallied with one out in the bottom of the first.
Cole Walters doubled and then scored on a
Mason Hayes single.
Blake Sanchez followed with a home run over the left field fence to take the 3-0 lead. But the Eagles weren't done.
Kody Garvin took first on a hit by pitch before
Trevor Lippard scored Garvin on a triple to right field.
Quentin Marcelin walked.
Jake Boyd scored Lippard on a sacrifice bunt  to the pitcher and then
Cody Schmidt brought across the final run on a single to right field.
CSI did not score again but didn't need to as the Golden Eagle pitchers held WNC to four runs the rest of the way.
Alec West-Guillen earned the win on the mound, going 4.1 innings and giving up three runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
Tyler Rosas came in for the save, pitching 2.2 innings and giving up one run on two hits.
In game two, Western got on the scoreboard first with four runs in the third inning before CSI scored one in the bottom of the fourth.
Joey Rossi was hit by a pitch and advanced to second a wild pitch.
Cole Walters moved Rossi to third on a sacrifice bunt before Sanchez singled Rossi home.
The Coyotes added two runs in the sixth. CSI answered with one run in the eighth but could score no more.
Schmidt ended the game 2-for-3 for the Eagles.
CSI, which travels to Colorado Northwestern Friday and Saturday, moves to 20-19 overall and 7-17 in conference play.
