TWIN FALLS - The 10th-ranked College of Southern Idaho left no doubt Saturday, beating Southern Nevada 9-1 in five innings and 7-1 in the nightcap.
The Golden Eagles pounded out 18 hits in the doubleheader and two home runs, while giving up just 9 hits and 1 earned run.
In game one, CSI took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth and then blew the game open with seven runs. In that inning Southern Nevada used three pitchers. The Golden Eagle hitting was highlighted with singles by
Skylar Cook,
Sarah Phillips and
Abby Toller. Every CSI player finished the game with a hit and
Erin Emanuel had two.
Kelsey Christensen dominated in the circle, giving up just two hits and no earned runs with three strikeouts.
In the second game, CSI took the 3-0 lead into the fourth and tacked on four more runs in the fourth to put the game away. The Coyotes lone run came in the fifth as
Samantha Riesen kept Southern Nevada off balance all game, giving up seven hits with five strikeouts.
Toller hit a 2-run home run in the third and
Shelby McKinnon added a 3-run home run in the fourth.
Madi Ford went 3-for-3 at the plate with three stolen bases and
Taylor Tahbo was 2-for-3.
The Golden Eagles improve to 36-15 overall and 27-9 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
