TWIN FALLS - After falling to Utah State University Eastern 8-2 in the opener Thursday, the College of Southern Idaho baseball team used a big seventh inning to run past the Golden Eagles of Price 6-2 in game two.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning,
Jake Boyd led off the inning with a single.
Kody Garvin laid down the sacrifice bunt and the catcher overthrew first advancing Boyd and Garvin to second and third.
Jackson Kunz loaded the bases on a walk before USU Eastern made a pitching change. Everyone advanced on a wild pitch to tie the game before CSI took advantage of a hit by pitch, an rbi fielder's choice and a walk to add two more runs. After another pitching change, CSI scored on an error by the short stop and
Quentin Marcelin finished the scoring with an rbi double. In all, the Golden Eagles put five runs on the board. That's all they would need as
Parker Loutensock closed the door on any USU Eastern scoring. Loutensock came into the game in the top of the seventh, earning the win and giving up no hits and no runs with three strikeouts. Marcelin finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate for CSI.
In game one, CSI struggled to string together any hits as no Golden Eagle hitter finished with more than one hit apiece.
Braydon Torres-Moore finished 1-for-3 with the lone rbi.
With the split, the two teams remained tied in the Scenic West Athletic Conference for fifth place at 9-21.
Both teams are back in action Friday at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader. The sophomores will be honored between games.
