TWIN FALLS - The 11th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Softball team had to come from behind in both games Saturday to beat Colorado Northwestern 5-4 and 12-7, completing the season 8-0 sweep of the Spartans.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-1 lead in game one but watched it disappear in the third when CNCC scored three. CSI scored one in the fourth on a
Jaici Bishop home run and one in the fifth on a
Cassidy Basinger home run.
Neither team could plate a run until the bottom half of the eighth.
Erin Emanuel led off the inning, taking first on an error by the second baseman.
Taylor Tahbo laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, getting thrown out at first and advancing Emanuel. That's when the first baseman tried to pick Emanuel off second and sailed the ball to the outfield allowing Emanuel to trot home for the win.
Sarah Phillips finished the game 2-for-3 and Basinger was 2-for-4.
Kelsey Christensen earned the win in the circle, going 8 innings and giving up nine hits with nine strikeouts and three earned runs.
CSI trailed even more to start game two. CNCC scored three runs in the second inning. The Golden Eagles answered with a run in the bottom of the second on a a solo home run by
Cassidy Basinger.
The Spartans weren't done. After a lead off out, CNCC loaded the bases on a walk, a single and another single. CSI brought in pitcher
CheyAnne Dahl to stop the bleeding, which she eventually did but not until Colorado's Taylor Reidhead took an outside pitch over the right center wall for a grand slam to give the Spartans the 7-1 lead.
CSI got three runs back in the bottom of the third when
Sarah Phillips doubled,
Skylar Cook singled and
Savannah Kirkpatrick hit a three-run home run over the left field fence.
CNCC did not scored again, while the Golden Eagles added five runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to secure the victory.
Bishop finished the game 3-for-4 and Kirkpatrick was 2-for-4 with four rbi. Â Dahl earned the win, giving up just 3 hits in 4.2 innings with six strikeouts and one earned run.
CSI improves to 30-13 overall and 21-7 in SWAC play.
