TWIN FALLS - Salt Lake CC had no answer for College of Southern Idaho sophomore
Alycia Wodke Saturday as the Golden Eagles beat the Bruins 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 to improve to 3-0 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
CSI kept Salt Lake out of system with a serving game that finished with seven aces. And when the Golden Eagles got the ball on offense Salt Lake struggled to defend Wodke. The outside hitter covered the court with kills, finishing with 19 and just one error. She added 10 digs and one ace. She saved her best set for last, posting 10 kills.
The Golden Eagles never trailed in the first two sets. The third was a battle as there were nine ties and three lead changes.Â
Salt Lake took their last lead of the set at 15-14. The Golden Eagles tied it on a kill by Wodke before two consecutive kills by setter
Marija Djonovic put CSI up 17-15. Wodke added another kill to give CSI the 18-15 lead. Salt Lake's Lia Finau answered will a kill for the Bruins before Wodke again came up big with two straight kills.
Both teams went back and forth before Salt Lake stuffed Jojo Kruize at the net two times in a row and Djonovic followed with a hitting error to knot the score up at 22.
That's when CSI looked to its middle, getting a kill by
Jasmyn Keohohina-Malina and one by
Shiloh Peleras to set up a match-point kill by Kruize.
For the match, CSI hit .363 compared to .260 for SLCC.
Djonovic finished the match with 42 assists, five digs and four kills. Libero
Luana Thompson played solid defensively for the Golden Eagles, posting a team-high 13 digs.
CSI improves to 17-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
