CARSON CITY, Nev. - The College of Southern Idaho softball team scored 38 runs in three games, beating Western Nevada 10-2 and 20-10 and falling to the Wildcats 9-8 in a one-day three-game series Friday.
Due to inclement weather, the fourth game was canceled.
The Golden Eagles jumped on Western Nevada early Friday in game one scoring four runs in the first two innings. Then CSI closed the door in the fifth, scoring six more runs to run-rule Western 10-2.
Markii Ashton led the offense, going 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Brittany Bland finished the game 3-for-3 and
Cassidy Basinger went 2-for-3 with a home run.
Kami Merrill earned the win, giving up six hits with five strikeouts.
In game two, CSI took an 8-4 lead into the seventh inning but watched the lead and game slip away as the Golden Eagles gave up a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to tie. CSI couldn't get a run across in the eighth and Western scored in the bottom to get the 9-8 extra inning win.
Ashton again was big, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double.
With the wind blowing out, the final game was all about hitting. The Golden Eagles plated 20 runs, hitting five home runs.
Shea Ibrahim led the way with two home runs, going 3-for-4 with five RBI.
Carley White was also hot, going 4-for-4 with four RBI.
CSI, now 13-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play, hosts Colorado Northwestern Friday and Saturday in its season home opener.
