Golden Eagle softball completes solid weekend in Texas

ODESSA, Texas - The 13th-ranked College of Southern Idaho softball team traveled to Texas to face some new faces and solid competition. The Golden Eagles beat Howard College 21-4, Seward County 13-3 and #8 Odessa 7-6 and 5-3. CSI fell to Howard 3-2 and Midland 5-2 and 6-5.
CSI started out the weekend on fire at the plate, racking up 25 hits in the 21-4 win. Kayla Carter, Markii Ashton and Abby Toller all went 4-for-5 at the plate. Carter had three doubles and four RBI. Ashton finished with three RBI. In the circle, Kami Merrill earned the win going five innings and giving up five hits with three strikeouts.
The second game of the doubleheader was much different as CSI fell 3-2. Carley White was 2-for-4 and Carter finished 1-for-4 with 2 RBI. Kelsey Christensen earned the lost, going six innings, giving up six hits with four strikeouts.
On Friday, CSI opened up the day with the 13-3 run rule against Seward. Shea Ibrahim went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two doubles. Savannah Kirkpatrick was 2-for-3 with four RBI and a grand slam. Merrill earned the win, going six innings and giving up four hits with seven strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles had chances in the doubleheader with Midland, falling in each. In the first game, Carley White was 3-for-4, Markii Ashton was 2-for-3 with a home run and Amanda Sheets was 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Kelsey Christensen earned the loss going six innings and giving up eight hits. In game two, Carter and Ashton went 2-for-4. Carter had two RBI with a home run and Ashton had a home run.
CSI got back on track Saturday, sweeping eighth-ranked Odessa College.
Sheets went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the 7-6 win. Ibrahim was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double and Toller was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a home run. Merrill earned her third win of the weekend, going seven innings with two strikeouts.
In the game two 5-3 win, Toller went 3-for-4 with a double and Marissa Johnson was 2-for-2 with two RBI. CheyAnne Dahl earned the win in relief, going three innings and giving up just two hits and one earned run.
CSI, now 11-5 overall, open conference Friday in Carson City, Nev. against Western Nevada College.
