CSI Softball wins Region 18 Tournament

TWIN FALLS - Amanda Sheets hit a RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs to lead the College of Southern Idaho softball team to its second Region 18 Championship and a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament next week in St. George, Utah.
The Golden Eagles defeated Salt Lake 3-2 in the final. The last time CSI went to the national tournament was in 2008.
Kayla Carter led off the eighth with a walk for the Eagles. Colby Argyle sacrificed Kami Merrill (pinch runner) to second. Markii Ashton walked before a ground out put runners on the corners. Sheets followed with a line drive down the first base line to the fence for the winning RBI.
No CSI player had more than one hit in the game and the only home run was hit by Golden Eagle shortstop Aubrey Whitmer.  Brandi Hall earned the win in the circle for the Eagles with six strikeouts, picking of her second win in the tournament.
A. Whitmer was named Region 18 Tournament MVP.
Other Golden Eagles that were honored on the all-tournament team were Sierra Whitmer, Shea Ibrahim and Brandi Hall.
Region 18 players from other schools that made the all-tournament team included Madison Anthony (NIC), Sarina Creswell (CSN), Karlee Manzione (Snow), Kaitlin Covione (WNC), Taylor Tann (SLCC), Paige Reimann (SLCC) and Bailey Reeves (SLCC).
