TWIN FALLS - The 10th-ranked Salt Lake Bruins snapped third-ranked College of Southern Idaho volleyball's 23 match win streak Saturday, by beating the Golden Eagles 25-22, 18-25, 25-23, 25-21.
Because it was CSI's first conference loss, the worst the Golden Eagles can still do is tie for the SWAC championship. With a win next Saturday at home against North Idaho, CSI would win the outright championship.
After starting the match flat, CSI came out and dominated the second set.
Jessi Seumalo finished that set with three kills and five blocks.
The Golden Eagles came out strong in the third set, taking a 12-6 lead but the Bruins clawed back into it and pulled away in the end.
CSI pulled within 19-18 in game 4, forcing Salt Lake to call a timeout. But the Eagles took the floor out of rotation, giving Salt Lake the 20-18 lead and never recovered.
Natasa Savovic and
Kendall Brock led the Eagles with 13 kills. Savovic also posted four blocks and 11 digs, while Brock added three blocks.
Lepeka Kalulu-Sugai finished with 22 digs and
Katarina Kojic had 47 assists for CSI.
The Golden Eagles 27-2 overall and 8-1 in SWAC play, host Western Wyoming Monday at 6 p.m. and Blue Mountain Tuesday at 6 p.m. before finishing the regular season Saturday at home against North Idaho at 1 p.m.
