TWIN FALLS - The 3rd-ranked College of Southern Idaho volleyball team opened its season by beating Central Wyoming and 19th-ranked Casper College in the Buffalo Wild Wings Invitational Friday.
Against Central Wyoming, Mercedes Vaughn led the Golden Eagle attack with 16 kills and three blocks. Teammate Natasa Savovic added 13 kills and 12 digs.
The Golden Eagles, which have 14 freshmen on their roster, started clicking by their evening match with Casper.
Savovic again had a solid match at the net, leading CSI with 12 kills and just one error.
CSI will play Northwest College at 11 a.m. Saturday. A win would guarantee the Golden Eagles a spot in the championship match at 3 p.m.
In other matches, Snow defeated Northwest College 25-23, 25-23, 11-25, 19-25, 15-11 and Central Wyoming 22-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-15; Casper defeated USU-Eastern 26-28, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 10-15 Northwest defeated USU-Eastern 20-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20.
