SALT LAKE CITY - The College of Southern Idaho baseball team defeated Utah State University-Eastern 14-6 on the opening day of the Region 18 Baseball Tournament and then followed with an 8-7 victory over Western Nevada on Thursday to advance to the undefeated game Friday.
The Golden Eagles had not beaten Western Nevada in 18 straight games.
Leading the charge for CSI was centerfielder and Region 18 Player of the Year Chase Harris. Harris went 4-for-5 in the game with three RBI and most importantly scored the winning run in the top of the 9th.
Eric Holdren came into the game for Andrew Freter to earn the win, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up just one earned run on four hits.
CSI will play Salt Lake at noon Friday in the undefeated game. A win would guarantee the Golden Eagles a berth in the District Championship next week and a chance to qualify for the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.
