SALT LAKE CITY - The 17th-ranked College of Southern Idaho softball team split its Scenic West Athletic Conference series with second-ranked Salt Lake to remain in a tie for first place with the Bruins in the league standings.
The Golden Eagles won the first two games 5-3 and 8-7 (10 innings), before falling 5-4 and 4-2 on Saturday.
It took two days to complete game two as CSI and SLCC held a 5-5 tie through nine innings on Friday. The game was postponed to Saturday because of lack of daylight.
The Bruins switched pitchers to All-American Ariel Zimmerman in the top of the 10th on Saturday and the Golden Eagles came out and scored three runs on three hits. CSI's pitcher Nellie Makings was able to get out of a jam in the bottom after Salt Lake scored two runs on one hit and two errors.
With runners on second and third and two outs, Makings got a ground-out to pitcher to end the inning and the game.
Golden Eagles Kylee Hogue and Pattie Ferguson were solid all weekend at the plate. Hogue ended the four games with a .462 batting average, six RBI, two doubles and one home run. Ferguson finished at .400 with one double, two homers and six RBI.
CSI improves to 17-8 overall and 8-3 in league play. The Golden Eagles host Snow College Friday and Saturday.
