Golden Eagle baseball goes 2-2 in Border Battle Tourney

HENDERSON, Nev. - The College of Southern Idaho baseball team played four very tight games to open its 2012 season, beating Yavapai 8-7 Friday before falling to Arizona Western 6-4 in 11 innings.
On Saturday, the Golden Eagles fell to Cochise 5-4 but rebounded to beat Cochise 3-1 on Sunday.
Carter Yagi was on fire at the plate, hitting .500 with three RBI for CSI in the four games. Chase Harris also played well, hitting .294 with a triple and three RBI.
The Golden Eagle pitching was solid all weekend. Eight different pitchers did not give up an earned run. Andrew Freter finished 1-0, pitching five innings and surrendering only four hitts with four strikeouts. The other win went to Eric Holdren. The combined ERA for CSI was 1.66, while the Golden Eagles opponents was 2.25.
CSI plays Northeastern Colorado Wednesday at 7 p.m. MST.
