TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho softball team struggled to get its bats going all weekend but still earned three wins against Snow College in Scenic West Athletic Conference action. The Golden Eagles beat the Badgers 3-0 and 7-5 on Friday and fell 1-0 in the first game Saturday before rebounding for a 10-1 run rule.
The Golden Eagles scraped together runs in the opener Friday and trailed 5-2 in the fourth when CSI head coach Nick Baumert was ejected from the game following a dispute with an umpire. The CSI players responded by allowing no more runs and putting together a rally in the seventh inning.
Mikkel Griffin led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run. After a ground out by Marina Groenewegen, Kelsey Bryant followed with another home run to pull within one run. Lyndi Miller doubled to centerfield. With Andy Jorgensen pinch running for Miller, Nikki Brailsford grounded out but was able to move Jorgenson to third. TJ Surrage hit a ball of the middle for a base hit to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
Marie Williams led off the bottom of the eighth with a double. Jessica Albertson laid down a bunt to sacrifice Williams to third. After a pop up out by Griffin, Groenewegen hit a walk-off home run to give CSI the victory. Six of the Golden Eagles runs came off five home runs.
Saturday, CSI managed just five hits and no runs in the loss. Golden Eagle pitcher Jyl Eckstein gave up just four hits but ended with the loss. CSI rebounded to run-rule in game two.
Mikkel Griffin hit her 25th home run to break the CSI single season home run record.
CSI improved to 34-14 overall and 28-7 in conference play. The Golden Eagles host North Idaho Friday and Saturday in their last home series. The athletic deparment will recognized the sophomore class prior to Friday's doubleheader.
