MOSES LAKE, Wash. - The College of Southern Idaho softball team swept the weekend against North Idaho, beating the Cardinals 11-2 and 9-4 on Friday and 11-5 and 9-8 on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles pounded out 60 hits over the four games including six home runs on friday and two on Saturday.
CSI's 1-2 hitters
Marie Williams and
Jessica Albertson combined to go 21-35 on the weekend, while
Marina Groenewegen went 10-for-18 with 12 RBI. Groenewegen took her home run total to 10 on the season by adding two this weekend. Teammate
Mikkel Griffin added three home runs to her total to stand at 17 for the year.
Jyl Eckstein took her SWAC record to 10-1, earning two wins and a save in the circle. The freshman pitched 14.1 innings, giving up seven runs. But her biggest moment came in the final game with CSI leading 9-8 and the bases loaded for North Idaho with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Eckstein came in and struck out the batter on three straight pitches to seal the win for CSI.
Jessi Duncan also threw well for the Eagles. Duncan gave up six earned runs in 9 innings and posted two wins to take her overall record to 10-4 on the season.
CSI improves to 22-10 overall and 16-3 in SWAC play. The Golden Eagles are off this coming weekend.
