TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho men's basketball team beat Salt Lake CC 94-86 Saturday to win the Region 18 Championship.
Pierre Jackson and
Jerrold Brooks combined for 55 points to lead the Eagles past a tenacious Salt Lake team.
The Golden Eagles pushed their lead to 20 with 12 minutes to go but Salt Lake pulled within seven at the five-minute mark. A key 3-pointer by Jackson pushed the lead to 10 but Jason Gamblin scored two points on a layin for Salt Lake. Jackson answered again with two free throws. From there on out the Golden Eagles maintained their lead exchanges buckets to the end.
Jackson earned Region 18 Tournament MVP honors for his play. Other all-tournament members included Idris Lasisi of North Idaho, Alfonzo Hubbard and Patrick McCollum of Salt Lake CC and
Jerrold Brooks and
Darius Smith, both of College of Southern Idaho.
CSI plays Cochise Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Scottsdale CC in Arizona. The winner will advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
