TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho softball team pulled out a split with Salt Lake Saturday, winning the final game 6-3 after losing the opener 9-1 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader.
After struggling to get their bats going early (3 hits in the first game), the Golden Eagles rebounded with a 11-hit effort in the second game.
Even bigger was Jyl Eckstein. With a 5-2 lead in the fifth inning of game two and CSI's starting pitcher Jessi Duncan rolling, Salt Lake's Kylee Brinkerhoff lined a ball off Duncan's knee. With Duncan unable to go and relief pitcher Kelsey Bryant injured, Eckstein came in to pitch the final three innings and earn the save for CSI. That win gave CSI the weekend split and stay within one game of league-leading Salt Lake.
CSI moves to 15-10 overall and 9-3 in conference play. The Golden Eagles travel to Snow next week.
