TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The 15th-ranked College of Southern Idaho softball team run-ruled 3rd-ranked Salt Lake 14-2 in the first game of a double header Friday before falling 8-7 in game two.
The Bruins walked CSI second baseman
Mikkel Griffin in the second inning with two outs and runners on second and third. Golden Eagle third baseman
Marina Groenewegen made them pay hitting a grand slam and putting CSI up 6-1.
Kelsey Bryant singled and
Lyndi Miller followed with another CSI home run to give the Golden Eagles all the cushion they would need.
Groenewegen ended the game going 2-for-2 with six RBI.
In the circle,
Jyl Eckstein earned with win, giving up just five hits and one earned run.
CSI looked like they were going to get game two when Griffin hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Eagles a 7-6 lead.
But a two-run shot in the top of the 7th by Sarah Webster put SLCC on top to stay.
Groenewegen again had a big game, going 3-for-4, while Griffin ended 2-for-4 with three RBI.
CSI moves to 8-2 in SWAC play, one game behind first-place Salt Lake, who stands at 9-1.
