Top-ranked CSI volleyball goes 2-0 on day 1 at SLCC Tourney

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The No. 1-ranked College of Southern Idaho volleyball team benefitted from the play of three freshmen to defeat Arizona Western 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-10 and No. 2-ranked Missouri St. Univ. West Plains 25-16, 25-21, 20-25, 25-18 Friday in the opening day of the Salt Lake CC Tournament.
Against AWC, Golden Eagle Rosie Becerra pounded down 23 kills with just one error to go with one service ace, four digs and one block. Libero Kianna Niu, kept the CSI in system all day, finishing with 24 digs and committing no reception errors.
Against MSU-WP, freshman Beth Carey dominated at the net. The Aussie ended the match with 19 kills in 33 attempts and just one hitting error for a .545 percentage. She added nine blocks. Niu was impressive again, added 22 more digs. MSU-WP had no answer for the CSI middles as Alyssa Everett reached double digits in kills with 12.
The Golden Eagles, now 6-1 overall, plays Western Wyoming at 11 a.m. and 5th-ranked Western Nebraska at 1 p.m. Saturday.
