Top-ranked CSI volleyball looks solid on opening day

TWIN FALLS - The No. 1 ranked College of Southern Idaho volleyball team defeated CEU 25-23, 25-18, 25-13 and 18th-ranked Casper 25-15, 25-14, 25-23 before falling to 4th-ranked Miami-Dade 25-22, 27-25, 23-25, 25-20 Friday in the opening day of the Buffalo Wild Wings/Hilex Poly "Let's Get it Started" tournament.
Elisa Brochado led the Golden Eagles attack all day. Brochado finished with 10 kills against CEU and 20 against Miami-Dade. She added six against Casper.
Defensively, Kianna Niu was solid for the Golden Eagles. She posted double digit digs in each match, finishing the day with 33 total digs.
With nine freshmen, CSI struggled with consistency against Miami-Dade but had moments that gave a glimpse of how good the Golden Eagles will be.
CSI plays Snow College at noon and 11th-ranked North Idaho at 4 p.m. Saturday.
