TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho softball team secured second place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings this weekend, beating Southern Nevada 6-1, 6-5 and 4-3 and losing just one game 13-3.
The Golden Eagles needed just one win to finish the regular season in second and take the second seed into next weekend's Region 18 Tournament in Salt Lake.
Marina Groenewegen led the Eagles at the plate, going 5 for 8 with two runs scored. Teammate Mikkel Griffin sent 6 for 13 with 4 RBI, a double and a home run.
Because CSI had secured the two seed Friday, CSI head coach Nick Baumert was able to rest ace Generra Nielson and pitch her just three innings on Saturday. Still she posted a 0.64 ERA with 14 strikeouts to lead CSI.
The Eagles open the Region 18 Tournament at 5 p.m. Thursday.
