CSI baseball finishes fourth in Region 18 Tournament

HENDERSON, Nev. - The College of Southern Idaho baseball team fell to Western Nevada 3-2 Friday to end its run at a Region 18 Championship.
The Golden Eagles outhit the Wildcats 7-6 but stranded nine runners and couldn't get the timely hits.
CSI opened the tournament against CEU, beating the Golden Eagles of Price 10-3. The victory put CSI into a semifinal matchup against Southern Nevada on Friday. CSI managed just five hits over nine innings and gave up 10 hits and seven earned runs to fall 9-2 to the second-ranked team in the country.
CSI bounced back to beat Colorado NW Friday afternoon 8-0 in seven innings and stay alive in the tournament.
That's when CSI ran into the WNC roadblock Friday morning that ended the Golden Eagles season.
One highlight of the tournament was the play of sophomore Ryan Lay. Lay finished the tournament with eight hits (8-17 for .471 BA) and two stolen bases. Those two helped him set the CSI single season stolen base record with 37 overall. (36 was the previous record set by Erroll Shirer in 1988)
CSI finished the season 37-22 overall and 24-15 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
College of Southern Nevada won the tournament and will advance to the District playoff next week.
