CSI WBB squanders 24-point lead, falls to SLCC

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - On the strength of a high shooting percentage in the first half, the Golden Eagle women's basketball team led by as much as 24 points Saturday, before losing to No. 2-ranked Salt Lake CC 66-62.
CSI shot 52 percent from the field, 56 percent from the 3-point line and 75 percent from the free-throw line in the first half, taking a 42-25 lead into the lockerroom.
But the same shots didn't fall in the second half and the league's leading scorer Haley Holmstead scored key points late for Salt Lake to keep the Bruins undefeated in SWAC play. 
Shauneice Samms scored 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Golden Eagles while Katreese Locket led them in scoring with 19.
The loss drops CSI to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in SWAC standings.
The Golden Eagles travel to Arizona in late December. CSI plays Madison Area Dec. 29, Howard College Dec. 30 and Phoenix College Dec. 31.
